They may also have one or more skills used to defend themselves or control the enemy, particularly the ranged damagers. A Damager ( Ranger, Mage, Seeker, Rogue, Hunter, Chieftain, Warlock) will always have one or more skills that boosts their damage.A Healer ( Druid, Priest, Shaman, Necromancer) will always have a Heal skill and a Shield skill (which work differently for Priest and Necromancer compared to Druid and Shaman) in addition to at least one controlling skill used to protect themselves.
A Tank ( Bladedancer, Warden, Paladin, Barbarian, Death Knight) will always have an Aggro skill used to attract attention from monsters to protect their party in addition to one ability that can mitigate or heal the damage they take and one controlling skill. The other 4 Basic Skills follow a certain pattern based on the type of the class: They are more effective and have less cooldown (6 sec) on offensive classes (Ranger, Mage, Seeker, Rogue, Hunter, Warlock) going to 7 seconds for the Chieftain and 9 seconds for all other classes except Templar, having 10 seconds cooldown. Relics can be used on these skills, allowing them to be greatly customized.Īll classes have a main damage skill, appearing on first place by default. They have a total of 5 skill levels, with the first one being learned by default. These are the skills that are available on any new character and as such will always stay relevant for any character. Skill Points can be used to increase the power of these abilities, which are earned every second level, with one additional point earned every 10 levels. The abilities themselves can be active or passive abilities, with the active ones requiring the player to use them in exchange of Energy and to wait for their Cooldown to reuse them, while passive abilities are always active. Monsters can also have their own Skills that may include abilities not available to players. 
There are 90 Basic Skills (not including Faction Skills and those that allow usage of certain Weapons or Gear) and 162 Expert Skills. They are divided into 2 different categories, the Base Skills which can be ranked up to level 5 and the Expert Skills which can be ranked up to level 4. Skills are a player's abilities unique to each class.
